ISTD//Screen printing

Preparing the screen

For the product range, a few of them are going to be screen-printed. To start with you need to choose a screen that is appropriate for your stock. So the products that will be made are bags, t-shirts etc. Therefore a fabric screen will be needed. Also tape and gum arabic needs to be washed of the screen and frame.

Once this is done, you then need to strip the screen. This consists of harmful chemicals so you need to be protected. Once you are ready, take the screen into the chemical room and cover the screen on both sides with 'B-strip'. Then rinse this with water and then power hose it until the blue strip has completely come over. You should be able to see through the screen. If you can't then you need to you need to put the 'B-solve' on both sides leave for ten minutes and then rinse.

Once this is done, you need to make sure that the screen has your name, course and date until it expires. Then put in the drying up to an hour before you expose your images.

Once the screen has dried you then need to coat it. Using a bleach like chemical and a long brush, from the bottom cover the screen.

Then the screens need to be placed in the cupboard for an hour to develop.

After the hour is up all that needs doing now is exposing the images.  Place the images onto the surface with the screens facing upwards. Then close the top and enter the amount of time it needs to be vacuumed.

Once this is finished take the screens out and wash them down ensuring you can see the image.
