Alphabet Soup//Visual Thinking

Final Letterforms
These are the final ten letterforms visually communicating the word 'Extract':

Letterform Drafts

After choosing the letter 'O' to visually communicate the ten letters, some initial ideas came together that interpreted how the word 'Extract' can be used. Some designs use the word more literally than others. For example, two of the sketches display the concept of pieces of the letters being taken away or 'Extracted'. Whereas one design focuses on the idea of how an 'Extract' of a book is applied to the area of the letterform.

Initial Sketches

Within a workshop, a a few quick designs were put together to explore the word 'extract'. They are very simple ideas but hopefully these will be the foundation to the development of the final ten letterforms.

Above is mind map regarding some aspects of the work 'Extract'.

Development of Blog Group brief

Here is a poster that Imogen made that is a guide of how to construct the survival kit and its purpose.

After choosing a logo and appropriate box design, as a group we then constructed multiple boxes consisting of variating colourways. We firstly made a a white box featuring a blue logo, however after feedback from another group we then decided to make a brown box with a red logo, which we feel was more appropriate with the box design.

We made a collection of mini boxes from nets that we found on google to see which one would work best for our 'Survival Kit'.

This will possibly go on the side of the survival box or on a hand out which would appear within the box. I made this on Photoshop trying to keep it really simple and legible as the purpose it to inform advise. (Taken from sam's blog)

Logo Example

The box and the photo is not mine. I simply found it on google images.
To look at other examples of the logo on box's follow this link to Sam Hoh's blog. -

Here are my first logos for our Survival kit. I simply used the Elliptical marquee Tool on photoshop to get the bubble look. The Font used is Helvetica Neue, mostly 'Ultra Light'. I prefer the more simple look, for example the 2nd and 3rd logos on the page.
Next I am going to find a plain box on the internet to play around with on photoshop, get a mock idea of what the logo will look like on packaging. (Taken from Simon's blog).

How to manage a demanding workload-Mind map

Blog group 8's mind map for 'How to...'. The idea is to create a survival box to help get through work. It is intended for the buyer to put objects into the box, and not  therefor not items to already be within it. This way, the buyer can personalise it to their own needs. It will also make it is easier  in designing the box as it can me made in a unisex style. A name is not yet decided. But for now, the name 'SBox' and 'Student Box' have been suggested. Next, research needs to be gathered to progress the development of the survival kit.
