Absence makes the heart grow fonder 


It began with the idea of a big heart balloon flying away from a small heart balloon to present the concept of as you part with something or someone you love, your love for them grows stronger. 

Here is a simple black and white illustration that will be used as the basis to create the design of the postcards.  

Type was then inserted using the typeface 'Lavanderia'. It has as hand-rendered aesthetic and flows well with the string of the balloon. A purple colour was also added within the balloons with an opacity of eighty. 

To make the colourways more appropriate the balloons were filled in with a light red which expresses a calmer style.  

To experiment with colour and texture, the red balloons were intensified and a brown paper background was applied. The red really stands outs against the texture however it may not work as well with other colours. 

To see what the illustration would look like on its on against the paper background, the colour in the balloon was taken out.
